Broadband, mobile and phone lines

You can claim the business proportion of any broadband and phone line costs which your business uses.

  • If you have a dedicated line for broadband and phone calls, you could claim the full amount
  • If you share your broadband and phone line with your residential use, you will need to work out the business use of this, and appropriately cost this against the bill

Ensure you document the usage or the calculation you use to determine the business usage.

Mobile phones

The same principle applies, if the mobile phone is used exclusively for business use, it can all be claimed (e..g a dedicated mobile and sim for your business).

Example 1: Claire has a mobile phone which is used exclusively for business use. Claire can claim the full cost of this as an expense

Example 2: Matt has a personal mobile phone which is used for both personal and business use. He works out that 50% of the usage is personal, and 50% is business related from his monthly bill. Therefore, 50% of the monthly charge can be claimed as an expense.
